Great is your faithfulness

Friday 01 May 2020

Because of the LORD’s great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fails. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

Lamentations 3 v 22-23

Thomas Chisholm wrote the words to this song that has been sung by many popular artists, worship leaders both traditional and contemporary. It has been source of inspiration to generations of people of all ages. Chisholm actually was not a musician he was a poet who wrote hundreds of poems during his lifetime. Lamentations 3:22-23 inspired him to write this poem “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.”  In 1923 he sent his poems to his good friend William Runyan, a musician associated with a Christian mission  who was so blown away by the depth of the poem that he said "This particular poem held such an appeal that I prayed most earnestly that my tune might carry over its message in a worthy way."

“Out of that simple prayer, Runyan's melody took shape, and the completed hymn was published the same year.

Thomas Chisholm experienced God great faithfulness Himself. He suffered ill health most of his adult life, and never made much money, but he said, “God has given me many wonderful displays of His providing care which have filled me with astonishing gratefulness.”

I have been a Christian for 28 years, when I first came to know Jesus, the person who helped me gave me a verse of scripture which has stuck with me ever since, God has said, “Never will I leave you never will I forsake you. So, we say with confidence, The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.  What can mere mortals do to me?  Hebrews 13 v 5-6

What I love about Gods promise is that you can look back at the end of each day and see God’s faithfulness (his mercies are new each day), you can look back over years, or a life time and see God’s faithfulness become part of your personal history.

Let’s take some time at the end of each day, at the end of each week, and whatever stage of life we are at and give thanks to the Lord for His faithfulness. Why not encourage someone else today and share a testimony how you have seen God’s faithfulness your life and your personal history.
