THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

By ELIZABETH COOPER

Saturday 24 October 2020

As we change the clocks today, I am reminded of how we try to make better use of the daylight by this action.

Like it or loathe it, the 'spring forward, fall back', is part of our life and at least this change is considered 'the better one'! (who doesn’t like that extra hour in bed?)

Technically it happens on Sunday 25th October at 2 a.m. so the minute after 1.59am will be 1am again. The time change always happens on a weekend, in the middle of the night, so less people are disrupted.

This changing of the clocks one hour backwards is called Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

Thankfully most technical things like phones, computers, and all things digital automatically change to the correct time, but you will have to manually adjust all other watches and devices.

As Christians we are assured that, by following Jesus, we will always be in the light, and we are to share this light with others; "neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand and it gives light to everyone in the house" Matthew 5 v 15

We shine the Light of Christ in may ways through our care and support of the people around us.

The bags of hope pull aside the darkness of despair for the family receiving it.

Our Recovery and Renew Well Being programmes seek to soak people in the healing light of God’s presence.

This next week, as the world around us celebrates Halloween and all that is dark, our Children and Families’ workers will be encouraging families to celebrate Jesus the Light of the World at the LIGHT IT UP event on Saturday 31st October.

At the beginning of November, the Toy Library will begin it’s ministry to the children and families, sharing the love of Jesus through contact and support.

While it may seem as if time has stood still for most of the year, be assured that God is still actively working and there is much we can do and are doing to join Him in His work here in Mansfield.

Pick up the phone, send an email, write a card and encourage one another to shine in their small corner while you shine in yours.

" Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Matt 5
