Spring clean your life and get rid of the rubbish

Tuesday 31 March 2020

Get rid of the old yeast, that you may be a new unleavened batch, as you really are.

1 Corinthians 5 v 7a

Most of us will have the urge at some point to clear out those cupboards, you know the man drawer that holds allegedly useful things that never see the light of day or the cupboard where the mail goes which you say you’ll shred when you get some time. But how great does it feel when we clear those places out, we feel like a new person, the burden lifted that we really are not like Monica the hoarder in the sitcom comedy ‘Friends’ or a candidate for the TV show ‘Britain's Biggest Hoarders’.

We continue looking at the Biblical Feasts and this week we are studying the Feast of Unleavened Bread.  Is this a feast you have never heard of? Don't know where it is in the Bible or what it's got to do with us?  Has it got anything to do with Jesus?  We'll be looking at these and other issues on this Sunday morning.

Part of God’s instruction for the Days of Unleavened Bread is to put leavened bread products (bread made with yeast out of our homes (Exodus 12:15-16). The apostle Paul, in 1 Corinthians 5:8, encouraged Christians to recognize that the unleavened bread of this Feast is symbolic of sincerity and truth, which should be the mark of life for every Christian. He also understood that leaven during this time symbolized sin, and this Feast pictures our need to make every effort to eliminate it from our lives. In other words,

SPRING CLEAN YOUR LIFE, GET RID OF THE RUBBISH THAT CLUTTERS OUR LIVES.

The saying of spring clean your home does have some origins in the feast of the unleavened bread, find out more as we go deeper to find out what Jesus wants to do in our lives.

“God Himself even "forgets" the wickedness committed by those whom He has forgiven. That's why it is never too late to clean up your life.”
