Matthew 25: 40.
' And the King will answer them " Truly I tell you , just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family , you did it to me".
We are certainly living in difficult times with threats to our health and finances. Our Government has chosen to reduce our overseas aid from 0.7 to 0.5 %.
In 1970 the United Nations passed Resolution 2626 which stated that " Each economically advanced country will progressively increase its official development assistance to the developing countries and will exert its best efforts to reach a minimum net amount of 0.7% of its gross national product ....by the middle of the Decade" .
This was achieved by the UK and although it may be argued that some aid was poorly directed many of the poor of our World benefited greatly . Now when poorer countries are suffering even more than here in the UK
we , as a nation are reducing our aid with predictable results.
As a Church Family we have seen the need to continue our charitable giving of time and money during these testing times. We know that our Saviour has set us an example. I am sure that we all are saddened by the choice that has been made.
Prayer
' For though the Lord is high , he regards the lowly ; but the haughty he perceives from far away' ( Psalm 138 : 6).
Lord , you have given us so much yet we are still reluctant to share with your world-wide family . Forgive us and may we always strive to help those who are suffering wherever they may be.
Amen
