HEBREWS 12 v 1-12
You may well have witnessed the launch of the NASA rover to Mars on the news . The launch took place on the 30th of July and , although Mars is now relatively close to us the probe will not reach its destination of Jezero crater until the 18th of February . The name given to the rover that is ' Perseverance ' named by 13 year old Alex Mather following a request for suggestions by NASA . The name is in keeping with other rover names reflecting human attributes. It is appropriate as only with perseverance could the years of planning result in such a mission . More perseverance will be needed to complete the journey and make it a success.
Hebrews 12 v 1-2 reminds us of the perseverance needed in our Christian lives , ' let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us ' . Now more than ever we need to persevere ' looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith '. Like the rover we have a long journey ahead of us but we can be confident we are not completing it alone!
Prayer
Dear Lord, may we remember that you are with us as we face the daily challenges of Life and that you will give us the strength to persevere. Amen
