In her recent letter from Chad our link missionary Claire Bedford told of how
Covid-19 was brought to Guinebor II hospital by a traveller. She tells how the
hospital continues its normal work and how they are prepared for such an
event. She asks for our prayers – and then adds: “We are praying for you”.
My immediate reaction could have been – Hey that is our job – to pray for you!
After all we are the sending partners. Then I rebuked myself. Mission is from
everywhere to everywhere – no boundaries, no one-way systems! We in the
UK need the prayers of others for our Christian witness …. and now, of course,
in the current Covid-19 pandemic.
The chameleon is an amazing creature. Not only does it change its colour to
merge into the colours around it but its eyes have 360 degree vision. It can see
backwards, forwards, to the left and to the right. It can see up and it can see
down.
What an inspiration for us! Members of a local community and members of a
global community. To care and be cared for. To serve and to be served. To pray
and to be prayed for.
The song ‘Brother, sister, let me serve you’ has this verse:
“I will hold the Christ light for you
In the night time of your fear.
I will hold my hand out to you.
Speak the peace you long to hear”
Let us pray for one another: for those who care for others, for those
overworked and over tired; for those who are self secluded, some with
symptoms of Covid-19, some lonely; for families cooped up together forbidden
to go out; for all who hold power and influence that they may make wise
decisions.
Prayer
A prayer of the apostle Paul in Colossians 1:11 : “We pray that you will be
strengthened with his glorious power so that you will have all the patience and
endurance you need, that you will be filled with joy always thanking the Father
who has enabled you to share the inheritance that belongs to God’s holy
people who live in the light.”
