Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Nearly 4 years ago I embarked on a new project to convert our garage to be useful living space complete with a utility room and downstairs toilet. A big task for even the most proficient DIYer, and very ambitious for someone who couldn’t put wallpaper up straight and without bobbles! I had lots of advice and help from some very qualified friends and a couple of mates to help with some of the more skilled jobs. My greatest moment of achievement and craziness, was attempting to install a new insulated rubber roof on my own a week before Christmas as the old roof was leaking. I’d finished for the day just before the rain came and was enjoying a well earned tea and hot bath when Jane shouted up “there is floods of water pouring into the house!” So in the dark and pouring rain, with a tiny torch, and makeshift tools, I had to do a bodge job to stop the ingress of water, it took me an hour and a half, I cut my hand, and whilst laying on the roof soaked to the skin, freezing to death in 50mph gusts of wind, I had a revelation of why people call the professionals. The roof has been up now for 3 years now and hasn’t leaked again so far! But as I look around the project is still not finished, there are still loads of small and some not so small jobs to do. I have found as the space became more useable Jane stopped nagging me to get it done and we have become comfortable with where it is at, and the motivation has become less to finish to completion what I started.
Thank God He is not like us, He always finishes what he starts. When it comes salvation, our Heavenly Father is a master professional, he always finishes what he has started, no matter how broken, or unworthy you may feel you matter to Him a great deal. He is the master of restoration transformation and growth. When you were born again God began a work in you, to shape and mould you to firstly bring Glory to Himself, then for you to know Him more, to become more Like Jesus ( Godliness) in character, lifestyle and become effective in service fully prepared for heaven. As we journey through life, we fail, mess up, make mistakes but God always uses them to continue to perfect you. We call the process “Sanctification”, and our co operation in it “discipleship” The bible reminds us we also play a part
For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 1 Peter 1 v 5-7.
I love the words of Song called “Testimony” which says Grace has rewritten my story… so come together sons and daughters, bought with blood and washed in water sing praises to the Spirit, Son and Father OUR GOD WILL FINISH WHAT HE STARTED. IF I’M NOT DEAD, YOUR’RE NOT DONE.GREATER THINGS ARE YET TO COME.
Lets continue to grow in our walk and discipleship with Jesus, and not settle in comfort as God has not finished with you yet and greater things are indeed yet to come.
