Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry hosts one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.
One in a few Billion I recently watched the latest of Professor Brian Cox’s shows called the “wonders of the Solar system.” He did a visual explanation of the size of our solar system. Filmed in Reykjavik harbour where there is a light beacon in the middle, he compared that light to our Sun and then in his hand he had a large black pebble, and said the earth in comparison to the sun is like the pebble with 6 or more billion of us crawling over it like ants.
When we think about our own significance against the backdrop of the universe we seem so insignificant yet God knows each one us by name, every minute detail of our life is known to Him. Think about your own story of how you came to know Jesus. How did he do that? Was it that maybe at the right moment someone was sent to talk to you about Him, or maybe it was a set of circumstances in your life that led to you think about greater meaning and purpose. God uses a million ways all in such perfect timing leading to the moment when spiritual eyes were opened and people see Jesus and respond to Him. How incredible is our God! Praise His name. The way he works is amazing beyond our comprehension, how can He run a universe, know all the stars by name and yet care for us and come alongside us when we are one in nearly 7 billion wow he has moved heaven and earth to make us His children. We should not be surprised the bible is full great truths about Gods interest in us Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them (Psalm 139 v16-17)
Jesus died for us to pay for our sin, why because even though we are like ants on a tiny pebble spinning in a vast universe around an equally tiny sun, He loves us, knows us and we are truly significant each one of us. Even before we ever existed on planet earth God knew us, and that moment we would become His. WOW!
Our bible teaching this morning is the story of Philip in Acts 8, and how God organised everything perfectly timed to meet with Just one!
There is a song that touches my heart on Gods care for the one It’s called “A billion X” some of the words speak profoundly of God’s interest and knowledge of all.
God of salvation, you chased down my heart, through all of my failure and pride, On a hill You created The light of the world, Abandoned in darkness to die. I can see Your heart Eight billion different ways Every precious one A child You died to save.
