the flow

But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.

1 Corinthians 1 V27

There is a humorous story told about when Jesus ascended back into heaven, and was welcomed by the Angels who were asking Him for all of the details of the mission on earth. He told them about his time amongst people, his love for them, and all the background leading to his death on the cross and resurrection.

He carefully explained the meaning and how this was the way by which mankind would be reconciled to God, forgiven of their sin, given new life in relationship to Him and would have the certainty of eternal life. The Angels, highly curious of how this would all work out, asked Jesus what the plan was now. He told them that he had left a bunch of inexperienced people to fulfil a global task of insurmountable odds against success, to spread the good news of the Kingdom of God. This would be proclaimed to the ends of the earth and to the end of human time. The Angels looked at one another bewildered and anxious, and said to Jesus what is Plan B!

There is no Plan B, God has chosen people to do his work. Looking at ourselves and others we may wonder if this was the best decision. After all, God could have chosen angels to speak to lost humanity, he certainly used them on many significant occasions throughout Scripture. Or God could have created a special category of messengers that would never fail him— a “sin-proof” instrument that would faithfully proclaim his Word. For that matter, God himself could have simply poked his face through the heavens and said, “Hello, world! I’m God, and you’re not!” But God has chosen people to do his work among humankind. He has found a way where His strength is perfected in our weakness, where He always gets the glory for his work because its not by might, nor by power by my Spirit says the Lord
Zechariah 4 v6.

Spiritual gifts are the outworking/manifestation of the Holy Spirit through you, to the world around you. Jesus said when we believe in Him streams of living waters will flow out from
our belly, which means our inner being, & as his dream team we get to share in what He is doing. But, attaining spiritual gifts is not the goal: they are the gateway. They are not a hobby to play with: they are tools to build with and weapons to fight with. We will be more effective as we put them to use for God’s glory and not our own
