Teach us to pray Lead us not into temptation

Hebrews 4: 15

Mansfield Baptist Church Centre 23rd August 2020

Dear Friends,

Mark asked me to write the introduction to the newsletter as he and Jane are on holiday. We pray that they will be able to relax and be refreshed in body, mind and spirit. Our prayers at this time are with all involved in receiving exam results. After months of uncertainty and waiting they now face important decisions about their future both for those receiving GCSE results and for those shortly hoping to embark on the new world of university life. We pray too for all the children and families connected with our church as they prepare to start a new school year at a time when nothing is certain. For them we pray that they will remember their Creator in the days of their youth. (Ecclesiastes 12:1). This week we continue with our series on the Lord’s Prayer and the phrase “lead us not into temptation”.

I imagine that if each of us wrote a list of what tempts us, we would come up with a whole host of topics. But basically temptation is     giving in to what pleases us and neglecting what God is asking of us. All of us can be affirmed by knowing that God knows what we are going through and he is longing to help. So let us be honest with him and with each other. Derek. Hebrews 4:15 “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathise with our weaknesses but we have one who has been tempted in every way just as we are            – yet without sin”.
