The Overwhelming Reckless Love of God

Tuesday 31 March 2020

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.

Ephesians 2 v 8

There is a song that has been echoing around my mind as I have been preparing for this week’s service, it’s called “Reckless Love” by Cory Ashby.
As we try to plumb to the depths of God’s love the words of this song reflect the amazement we all must find in the overwhelming love of God. If you get a chance listen to the song and let the lyrics speak to the depths of your soul of the Grace of God. A love that we don’t deserve, a love we can’t earn yet God gives it away in Himself. A love so overwhelming when you get it, you can’t resist it. It’s a love that chases you down, a love which does seem so reckless, after all who would go out of their way to love an enemy, or people who reject you, annoy you, offend you or mistreat you. That is the overwhelming never-ending, reckless love of God or in one word GRACE! God’s Riches At Christs Expense. Look at the next verse of the song, the song writer clearly has had experience of GODS GRACE to write such simple but deeply profound lyrics.
“When I was Your foe, still Your love fought for me, you have been so, so good to me
When I felt no worth, you paid it all for me, you have been so, so kind to me” Is this not us? Are we not a subject of God’s amazing grace?

When we have tasted and experienced God’s grace we are called by God to also model that same grace into our everyday lives, i.e. treat others in the way that God treats us, with our families, our church family, and those who we work with, and rub shoulders with week to week. God will often use the Grace you show as a living example of his love and grace for others to see Him. Our service this week is all age and we will explore this together as a family using the parable of the Unforgiving Debtor.

My prayer as we meet this week is, we will all experience a fresh draft of the revelation of God’s grace and that will overflow our hearts, and into the places we will carry His presence. May our hearts be overwhelmed by the never-ending reckless love of God.
