Touching the Hem of Jesus’ garment.

I had just started as a Pastor and had a phone call asking me to pray with someone for healing, the person was in desperation and in the middle of treatment, but the outlook was this was an end-of-life situation and they were not a Christian. I had so little experience of these situations all I could was to pray and ask the Lord to help I was pretty desperate but knew the Lord was sending me, I did not feel experienced, adequate or equipped enough but knew I had to go and see this person.

 I’d just come from a role working with Children and young people/young adults which did have lots of challenging and difficult times, including being caught in the middle of a large group of angry and aggressive young people on a tough estate in Hastings about to kick of big time, and beat me and the youth group I had brought on a share Jesus mission, and also destroy the leisure Centre we had hired for the week. The youth group all gathered in one corner of the building, and to quote one of them who told me after “we prayed like we had never prayed before”.  I was not able to pray with them as I was too busy learning new skills to be a diplomat, bouncer, and lion tamer in those tense moments, before the Lord answered their prayers and miracles broke out and some of the young people came to faith.

As I came and asked Jesus to help me with this visit, I came with nothing, what could I possibly pray for this person knowing it was impossible, and may give false hope. The Lord said pray theses things Healing for the Soul, healing for the emotions and strength for the journey. I had the privilege to bring Jesus to their situation, share the hope of the Gospel and that healing included the start of eternal life now. I never saw the person again, but heard they had talked about the healing of the soul with relatives, before they sadly passed away.

As I continue to serve Jesus, I have continued to grow in understanding that healing is more than just of the body, the Bible reading today explores healing and wholeness that Jesus brings in many ways there are at least 5 in this account of the woman who touched Jesus’ cloak.

Will we to, stretch out and touch the hem of garment and By His stripes receive healing as He would give as we need. All of us are in the process of healing as that is what Salvation is!
