"If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
The story is told about a little boy who was flying a kite. It was a windy day, and the kite kept going higher and higher. Finally, it got so high that it was out of sight. A man passed by and saw the little boy holding onto the string. The man could not see the kite, and he asked the boy, “How do you even know you have a kite up there?” The boy replied, “Because I can feel it.”
Although we cannot see the Holy Spirit, we should be able to sense His work in our lives changing us into the image of Christ as he dwells both with and in us. The Holy Spirit guides us, teaches us, leads us into all truth. Without His help the Christian life cannot exist. It just becomes a religion.
We are continuing our theme of finding Jesus in the biblical feasts and will be exploring deeper the feast of Pentecost. Deeper experience of the Holy Spirit is only known through obedience, surrender, and purity to live as a Christian effectively, faithfully, and fruitfully His help is needed like a glove needs a hand. We are like the glove and the Holy Spirit is the hand, without the hand the glove is useless and cannot do anything.
A famous evangelist and preacher D.L. Moody were just starting in the work, he heard a preacher make this statement, “the world has yet to see what God can do with one man fully surrendered to Him.” Moody that night said, “By God’s grace, I’ll be that man!”
What about you? Do you desire more of the Helper to be alongside you, dwelling in you and energising your Christian life to not just survive but to Thrive? Let’s ask Him today that by his grace we will be those people.
“If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"
Acts 2 v 1-21
“Without the Spirit of God, we can do nothing. We are as ships without the wind, branches without sap, and like coals without fire, we are useless.”—
