What do we want? When do we want it? Now!

Isaiah 50: 4-10

What do we want?

When do we want it?

Now!

That is the chant of many demonstrators in our towns and cities.

It is also a question worth asking as we review priorities in our lives.

An old hymn puts it: O for a closer walk with God, a calm and heavenly frame. A light to shine upon the road that leads me to the Lamb.

"Simon Keller, writing in the I paper on 27thFebruary admits he is not a Christian but values the season of Lent for two reasons: it is a reminder that Spring is on its way evidenced by the abundance of daffodils, but also as an opportunity to review priorities.

“So much of our lives”, he writes, “is on show –everything is documented by social media ... the lines between our needs and our wants are blurred ... we want instant contact and instant gratification."

This morning we begin a short series walking with Jesus on his way to the Cross. One word stands out for me –“He   resolutely set out for Jerusalem” –other translations say: “steadfastly, with determination, made up his mind, steeled himself” (Luke 9:51)

It was something he had to do to fulfil the Father’s will. Notice how he did this and how he dealt with misunderstanding and interruptions along the way. We pray that this will help us in our ongoing discipleship.
