Set Your Priorities

Tuesday 31 March 2020

Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.

Philippians 3 v 8

We welcome the family and friends of Lucus and Martha this morning for the dedication of their new baby boy Ioan. A Dedication service is where we dedicate Ioan to God and welcome him into our church. During this ceremony, Lucas and Martha will also dedicate themselves to raising  Ioan as a Christian.
Lucas and Martha have decided to do this, as they believe with us, that becoming a Christian is the most important thing in life and therefore an important part of Ioan’s and Emmerson’s upbringing. As they grow older both Ioan and Emmerson will decide for themselves if being a Christian is important to them. We pray that they as a family, and we as church  will be great examples,  that we will help them to understand who Jesus is, how amazing he is, and that Jesus is not just a myth or a story but a living reality who is part of our lives.
I’m sure  all of us who Know Jesus would say that He is simply the best, and nothing in life can compare to Him. The Apostle Paul writing to a Church in Philippi had a dramatic encounter with Jesus that changed his life, and wrote, that to know Jesus Christ is worth more than anything else in life, so much more in fact, that anything else in comparison is worthless rubbish.
Is Jesus that important? Only you can decide, but that decision will impact  how you live your life, what your priorities are and determine your future forever. One thing I have discovered as I have followed Jesus, is that when you make Him number one  you will never ever be disappointed.

When we put God first, all other things fall into their proper place or drop out of our lives. Our love of the Lord will govern the claims for our affection, the demands on our time, the interests we pursue, and the order of our priorities.
